The British licensed hospitality business operated by BrewDog has entered an insolvency procedure carrying a debt burden of £190 million.
Administrators overseeing the collapsed company’s affairs indicated that certain creditors holding legitimate claims against the business are unlikely to recover any funds from the proceedings.
According to documentation compiled by insolvency practitioners AlixPartners, the available assets fall short of what would be required to fulfil obligations owed to various parties when the enterprise ceased trading.
Among the outstanding liabilities, approximately £489,000 relates to outstanding employee remuneration and accumulated leave entitlements within the company’s retail operations.
Staff members who experienced job losses following the business collapse received compensation through statutory guarantee mechanisms, with the corresponding amount now recoverable from the former employer.
Earlier in 2025, North American cannabis and beverages corporation Tilray acquired BrewDog’s trading identity, proprietary assets, British production facilities and eleven trading premises in a transaction valued at roughly £33 million.
The insolvency process resulted in the permanent closure of 36 outlets, affecting nearly 500 employees, before ownership transferred to the incoming party.
The establishment situated on Cowley Road in Oxford ceased operations during 2025.
The acquisition rendered equity stakes held by approximately 200,000 community funding participants effectively valueless.
Financial statements filed by the administrators detailed liabilities of around £489,000 covering staff wage shortfalls and unused leave payments within the retail division.
Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs is owed a sum of £2.4 million in respect of unremitted value added tax.
The filed documents establish that the current asset position precludes any distribution to creditors bearing preferential status, citing diminished returns from asset disposal and elevated professional fees associated with the administration period.
Affected personnel were directed toward available government assistance programmes following their dismissals.
