Rail services through Bicester experienced disruption on September 19 following a collision between a heavy goods vehicle and a railway bridge structure.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:45am at the intersection of the A4085 and Howes Lane along Bucknell Road in Oxfordshire, according to Thames Valley Police.
Emergency services attended the scene where a lorry struck the railway bridge spanning the junction.
Officers confirmed that neither the bridge infrastructure nor any individuals sustained damage or injuries.
Traffic management measures were implemented while crews worked to clear the area, with the road subsequently reopening to vehicles.
Chiltern Railways acknowledged the impact on passengers, noting that services in both the London and West Midlands directions faced blockages during the morning peak period.
The railway operator advised customers to check revised timetables while infrastructure assessments were conducted.
The affected bridge structure is located to the north of Bicester and had undergone substantial renovation work as part of a major transport improvement scheme completed in 2021.
The project involved constructing a new bridge beneath the railway line to accommodate the realigned Howes Lane route, along with an additional underpass providing access for pedestrians and cyclists through the railway embankment.
