A sports pavilion and community hall development has received formal contract approval.
The project will rise at the Louie Memorial Playing Fields in Botley, situated within the Vale of White Horse district, following completion of the tendering procedure.
Work to demolish the current pavilion structure is slated to commence on September 29, with Maylarch Environmental Ltd taking charge of the initial stage of operations.
The main construction phase will subsequently be undertaken by Beard, with an anticipated completion date set for summer 2027.
Lorna Berrett, chair of Botley and North Hinksey Parish Council, expressed that the development had been long awaited by local residents and confirmed that construction activities were now underway.
She acknowledged the contributions of community members whose efforts had helped bring the project to this point and noted that the completed facility would serve the broader community.
The structure has been designed by Jessop and Cook Architects and will incorporate changing facilities for football teams, public conveniences, and a community hall.
The hall space will accommodate various community groups, including Botley Youth Club and art organisations.
Additional provisions include storage areas and bicycle parking infrastructure.
The development carries a budget exceeding one million pounds.
Funding has been secured through multiple sources, including planning work undertaken by BNHPC, a contribution of £250,000 from CIL funds provided by Vale of White Horse District Council, commitments from local residents, and a public works loan facility.
A representative for Botley Youth Club indicated that young people deserved appropriate amenities that demonstrated their importance to the community and provided welcoming environments for play, education, social interaction, and relaxation.
A subsequent phase of works is anticipated, which would see the addition of an expanded hall space once additional financial resources become available.
