The provisional housing facilities would be situated at Location A of the decommissioned Bicester military installation, under an expedited Crown Development submission put forward by the Home Office.
Cherwell District Council’s planning panel will convene on Wednesday, 16 September, to determine the authority’s formal stance on the submission, with the ultimate determination resting with national administration.
According to Chris Aramini-Brant, who serves as deputy leader of Cherwell District Council and holds the planning and enforcement portfolio: the council is urging those with concerns or interest in the scheme to examine the available documentation and forward their representations directly to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government ahead of the consultation deadline.
The council’s draft submission emphasises several planning issues that ought to be incorporated into the decision-making framework.
These encompass transportation and highway implications, strain on local amenities, ecological impact, surface water management, premises security, and consequences for surrounding residential areas.
The submission outlines facilities intended to house and provide assistance to as many as 1,256 asylum seekers.
The authority’s preliminary position flags worries regarding traffic and road infrastructure, demands on community services, environmental consequences, drainage systems, site security, and repercussions for neighbouring settlements such as Piddington and Upper Arncott.
The upcoming planning panel gathering will proceed without provisions for audience contributions, though proceedings will be transmitted in real time via the council’s online platform.
