ITV has altered programming for Emmerdale and Coronation Street this week as the channel broadcasts the National Television Awards in the customary soap time slots.
The National Television Awards are scheduled to run from 8pm until 10.30pm on Tuesday, September 8, overlapping with the usual broadcast times of both programmes.
Coronation Street has been nominated for the Serial Drama prize at the 2026 ceremony.
Sue Devaney and Gareth Pierce have received nominations for the Serial Drama Performance accolade.
Both soap operas will largely maintain their regular schedules, with the exception of the single episode missed when the awards ceremony occupies the evening slot.
Neither programme currently airs on Sundays.
In separate Emmerdale news, the long-running soap recently aired a significant storyline in which the character Dawn Fletcher was killed off.
Dawn, portrayed by Olivia Bromley for eight years, died following a sequence of traumatic incidents during her wedding day celebrations to Joe Tate.
The episode depicted Jimmy King’s vehicle colliding with the wedding marquee, trapping the newly married couple.
Dawn was transported to hospital where she experienced premature labour and delivered a baby boy.
Despite medical intervention, she did not survive.
Claire King, who plays Kim Tate and is Dawn’s stepmother, previously discussed the emotional nature of the storyline.
According to reports, King indicated that the loss proved particularly difficult given Bromley’s position within the close-knit cast.
The character of Kim Tate is Dawn’s stepparent through her marriage to the Tate family.
Olivia Bromley spoke about the experience of filming her final scenes as Dawn.
The storyline reportedly represented a decision made by the programme’s producers.
Bromley indicated satisfaction with how the character’s journey concluded, describing it as appropriate for allowing her to pursue other acting opportunities.
Bromley had been a regular cast member of Emmerdale for eight years.
Reports suggested she was seeking to explore diverse acting opportunities, with interest in appearing in period dramas and other varied roles.
