A café in Bicester has received a much-improved food hygiene rating following a successful appeal.
Jennys Bistro Café, located in Market Square, underwent a reinspection by Cherwell District Council’s environmental health team after initially receiving a one-out-of-five rating in June.
Following the reinspection conducted in August, the establishment was awarded the top rating of five-out-of-five.
The earlier inspection had identified concerns regarding food safety management, with officials requesting significant improvements.
After the café’s management challenged this assessment, officers returned to evaluate the premises and found substantial progress had been made.
The management of food safety measures is now classified as good.
During the initial visit, both food handling practices and the condition of the premises were deemed generally satisfactory.
Both categories have now been upgraded to good in the latest report.
The food handling assessment covers preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage procedures, while the facilities evaluation considers layout, ventilation, hand washing provisions and pest management.
Local residents have shown continued support for the establishment, with patrons frequently praising the welcoming atmosphere and quality of the meals served.
Customer feedback on travel platforms has highlighted the reasonable pricing and consistently positive dining experiences.
The reinspection outcome marks a significant turnaround for the café, demonstrating compliance with required standards for safe food preparation and premises maintenance.
