The aerosol-based soft drink Turbo Tango is set to return to shelves this month following a 15-year absence from the market.
First introduced in 2011, the carbonated spray beverage represented the world’s inaugural aerosol-format soft drink and cultivated a devoted following among Millennial consumers who appreciated its unconventional dispensing mechanism.
Carlsberg Britvic brand director Dave Laidler noted that consumer preferences and cultural trends have shifted considerably since the product’s initial launch.
Laidler observed that while certain aspects of the 2010s era prompt retrospective amusement, particular products merit revival.
The company monitored sustained demand from consumers, including organised online petitions advocating for Turbo Tango’s reintroduction, and determined that enthusiasm for the cult classic had remained consistently strong throughout its absence.
The campaign aims to introduce the distinctive beverage to younger consumers while simultaneously offering previous purchasers an opportunity to experience its taste again.
Research conducted by Tango indicated that 89 percent of Millennial respondents expressed nostalgia for food and drink products from their childhood that have since been discontinued.
Additionally, 73 percent of Generation Z British consumers reported having searched social media platforms for retro or discontinued snacks and beverages from the 2000s and 2010s.
The survey also explored which 2010s items Generation Z respondents would most like to see return, including mobile phones supplied with chargers and earphones, iPod devices, 3D films, and high-heeled footwear for evening occasions.
Conversely, certain practices from the Millennial generation’s online habits were considered best forgotten by Generation Z respondents, such as using instant messenger status updates to communicate availability, sending social media pokes, waiting extended periods for developed photographs following holidays, and arriving unannounced at friends’ residences without prior messaging.
The limited reintroduction will feature only 2,000 individual cans, distributed through exclusive creator-led social media releases.
The inaugural collection opportunity will occur at the Turbo Tango Lab Party, scheduled at Gorilla in Manchester on September 9 between 4pm and 6.30pm.
A subsequent creator-hosted release featuring JV and Biggs will take place in a different United Kingdom city during the following week.
Given the restricted production volume, the available stock is expected to deplete rapidly.
