Oxford city-centre crime data: July 2026

Published on

Oxford recorded 593 reported incidents within the Police.uk local search area around the configured city‑centre point in July 2026. Violent crime was the most common category, with 133 incidents, followed by shoplifting (101) and public‑order offences (64). Anti‑social behaviour (58), other theft (52) and theft from the person (57) also contributed notable numbers, while burglary, drug offences and criminal damage‑arson each accounted for fewer than 35 incidents.

The hotspot locations within the search radius reflected the concentration of activity. The Further/higher Educational Building topped the list with 69 incidents, while Castle Street (30), Queen Street (24) and the Shopping Area (26) also recorded high totals. Other frequently mentioned locations included the Supermarket (23), Police Station (25), Nightclub (21), A420 (20) and Theatre/concert Hall (17). Together, these sites accounted for a sizable share of the reported crime in the area.

The figures pertain only to reported crimes within the Police.uk local search area around the configured city‑centre point and do not represent the entire city or local‑authority area. In common with national reporting, the data cover reported incidents only and are subject to a typical 2‑3 month reporting lag. Oxford Chronicle will continue to monitor local crime patterns as further data become available. Source: Police.uk under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
