New water treatment plant proposed at Didcot B Power Station in Oxfordshire

Published on

Didcot B Power Station could soon be home to a new water treatment facility.

Energy company RWE Generation UK plc has submitted documentation regarding plans for the Oxfordshire-based site.

The facility would initially cater to a neighbouring commercial operation, with potential expansion to serve additional businesses and the power station itself, subject to regulatory approval.

The development is intended to maximise efficiency in extracting and recycling water sourced from the River Thames, thereby decreasing reliance on public water supplies.

The power station already operates existing water treatment infrastructure for its steam generation processes.

The plans are currently pending a determination from Vale of White Horse District Council regarding whether a full Environmental Impact Assessment is required.

The submitted documentation details the proposed facility’s technical specifications, proposed location, and possible environmental implications.

Local planning authorities have a 21-day window from receipt of the request to issue their screening opinion.

According to the developers, the project is not expected to produce notable environmental impacts, whether considered independently or alongside other current or approved developments in the area.
