Oxford city-centre crime data: August 2026

Published on

Police.uk data for August 2026 shows that 555 incidents were reported within the local search radius around the configured Oxford city‑centre point. Violent crime, with 152 recorded cases, accounted for the largest share of all reported incidents, followed by shoplifting (90) and anti‑social behaviour (68). Public‑order incidents (52) and other theft (41) were also notable, while drug‑related offences (11) and burglary (19) remained comparatively low.

Geographically, the data highlights several hotspots where incidents clustered. The area around the Nightclub recorded 36 incidents, the highest of any single location, while the nearby Castle Street (31) and Queen Street (28) also saw elevated numbers. Retail locations such as the Supermarket (21), the Shopping Area (18) and Avenue Lane (27) contributed to the shoplifting and theft totals, and the Police Station address recorded 25 incidents, reflecting the concentration of reporting activity. Together, these locations account for a substantial portion of the overall total, indicating that crime in the surveyed radius is concentrated in the city’s evening‑economy and retail zones.

It is important to note that these figures cover only the Police.uk local search area around the city‑centre point and do not represent crime levels across the whole of Oxford or its wider local‑authority area. The data reflects reported crimes only and is subject to a typical 2‑3 month reporting lag, meaning recent trends may not yet be captured. Source: Police.uk under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
