BBC seeks permission for six new satellite dishes at Crowsley Park monitoring station

Published on

An application seeking authorization for the erection of six additional satellite dishes at a long-established monitoring complex has been filed with local planning authorities.

The facility at Crowsley Park, situated close to Henley, has been utilized for the reception and oversight of overseas radio and television transmissions for numerous years.

The planning submission was lodged with South Oxfordshire District Council on September 1 and awaits determination by the authority.

Historical records show that comparable alterations to the site’s aerial equipment received planning approval in 2018, when consent was granted for the dismantling of old dishes and their replacement with new installations at the complex.

The council endorsed that previous scheme, acknowledging the installation’s recognized function within the realm of satellite-based communications and programme acquisition.

Positioned just beyond Henley, the compound continues to serve as a significant telecommunications installation within the district.

The planned dishes would supplement the existing equipment on the premises, though available documentation does not suggest any substantial development of the monitoring station’s overall operations.

The planning proposal, accessible through the council’s public register, invites community input and feedback before any determination is reached.

The expansion reflects how monitoring facilities must adapt to evolving international broadcasting demands and emerging communication technologies.

South Oxfordshire District Council will ultimately decide the application’s fate after reviewing all submitted representations during the consultation window.
