Anneliese Dodds MP calls Oxford grooming gang testimony deeply disturbing

The MP for Oxford East has described the findings of a BBC Panorama investigation into grooming gangs in Oxford as deeply troubling.

Former acting detective chief inspector of Thames Valley Police Simon Morton also contributed to the programme.

The investigation examined how women had been dismissed and overlooked by Thames Valley Police.

One survivor stated that individuals involved in the criminal networks remained visible within the city.

Anneliese Dodds, the constituency’s representative in Parliament, commented that the accounts given by survivors to the programme were deeply disturbing.

She emphasised that it should not be possible for individuals connected to these offences to continue their lives unchallenged.

The MP stated that Thames Valley Police’s commitment to hearing from victims must result in more of those responsible for these abhorrent crimes being brought before the courts.

When approached for comment, Simon Morton confirmed that grooming gangs were indeed still operating in Oxford.

The investigation drew attention to what it described as catastrophic failures by Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire County Council in safeguarding vulnerable young women.

Darren O’Callaghan, assistant chief constable, stated that the consequences of child sexual abuse persist throughout a person’s lifetime, making it essential that those affected can describe their experiences of the abuse they suffered.

He affirmed that anyone who has experienced abuse, whether recently or in the past, could expect the force to listen, offer support and treat them with dignity, respect and compassion.
