A 14-year-old martial arts competitor from Oxfordshire has secured the world champion title following his performance at a major international karate event in Brazil.
Jakob De Brum, from Abingdon, claimed victory in the individual kata category at the JKS International Cup held in Vitória.
His achievement earned him the right to represent England on the international stage and return home with the championship title.
In addition to his individual success, he also secured gold medals in the team kumite competition during the same tournament.
The young athlete has developed his skills through years of dedicated training at JKS Abingdon, accumulating experience through competitions throughout the United Kingdom and across Europe.
His accomplishments include a second-place finish at the JKS European Cup hosted in Denmark and a third-place result at the British Karate Federation International Open.
His consistent performances at high-level events earned him selection for the JKS England national squad.
His progression through the sport has been backed by various sponsors, including Motion Mender, Pink Coco London, and PartMax, whose contributions have supported his development.
His father, Victor De Brum, described the achievement as one he was still coming to terms with, noting that the result represented Jakob’s first appearance at the World Championships.
