The Office for Product Safety & Standards verified the recall, confirming the product fails to comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
Regulators indicated that the item presents a health risk because the sand material inside the bags could contain asbestos fibres.
Asbestos remains prohibited in consumer products due to the health dangers it poses even at minimal exposure levels.
The product has been removed from sale and retrieved from customers by Smyths Toys.
Owners have been advised to discontinue use immediately.
The retailer has ceased distribution of the item and is requesting purchasers return it for a complete refund.
The affected stock keeping unit is 233254, corresponding to a poplar wood board accompanied by six striped toss bags in red, blue and white colour schemes.
Representatives for Smyths Toys confirmed that laboratory analysis revealed the sand-like filling in the toss bags might contain asbestos at trace concentrations.
