A section of road in Oxfordshire has been restored to traffic following the completion of urgent maintenance operations.
The highway beyond the Swinford toll bridge, which carries a 5p charge, had been sealed off since September 9 while essential repairs were conducted.
Thames Water undertook utility repair and maintenance activities along the Oxford Road leading into Eynsham during this period.
The closure prompted the rerouting of additional vehicles onto the A40, resulting in heightened congestion for those travelling through the area.
Oxfordshire County Councillor Liam Walker confirmed that arrangements had been made for the temporary traffic management measures positioned between the toll bridge and the Eynsham roundabout to be dismantled the following day.
Reports from numerous local residents indicated that minimal activity was observed at the work site despite the road being closed for essential maintenance purposes.
Public transport services also experienced disruption as a consequence of the closure.
Stagecoach confirmed that its E1 route was unable to serve stops located between Eynsham and Botley, specifically the Nobles Lane bus stop, in both directions for the duration of the restrictions.
The service implemented diversions in both directions travelling via the A34 and A40.
While the bridge itself remained traversable throughout the maintenance period, vehicles were required to reverse direction as the adjoining highway remained inaccessible.
Observations indicated that some motorists disregarded the closure signage and subsequently had to return across the bridge.
The toll collection point ceased operations during the closure and has since resumed normal function now that the road has reopened to traffic.
