The parcel delivery company Evri has announced plans to take on more than 10,000 workers across its operations following widespread customer complaints during the Christmas 2025 period.
The recruitment drive includes over 7,000 positions for community couriers and more than 2,000 Evri Premium owner-driver roles.
An additional 168 positions are being created in Swindon, with some of these jobs intended to support services in Oxfordshire.
The announcement comes after multiple reports of delivery problems in Oxfordshire and surrounding areas during the festive season.
The company currently handles more than one billion parcels annually and has set a target of 1.4 billion parcels per year by 2030.
In Grove, residents at the Wellington Gate development reported significant issues with missing parcels.
Households described deliveries being thrown into gardens without care, parcels being left at incorrect addresses, and multiple packages vanishing entirely in the lead-up to Christmas.
One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, told this publication that hundreds of parcels had disappeared on the new-build estate after she raised complaints directly with the company.
She described the situation as shocking and unlike anything she had previously experienced.
Another local resident reported that parcels had been left at their doorstep without the doorbell being rung, and that only one of the deliveries actually belonged to them.
Following those complaints, the courier assigned to the estate stepped down from the role.
It is understood that the driver had experienced vehicle problems, with family members subsequently assisting with deliveries, causing delays and extended working hours into the night.
A spokesperson for Evri commented that the organisation was disappointed when a courier failed to handle parcels with appropriate care.
The spokesperson noted that the overwhelming majority of the company’s 34,000 couriers are diligent members of their local communities who take professional pride in their work.
Residents in Abingdon reported that the company had marked parcels as delivered when they had not arrived.
Footage captured on doorbell cameras in Witney showed parcels being tossed onto doorsteps with minimal care.
The Salisbury Journal reported that an Evri courier had been dismissed after numerous parcels went undelivered in that area.
Tish Burbidge, an elderly resident, stated that she had lost up to seven parcels and described the situation as deeply frustrating.
In response, Evri confirmed that a third-party contractor had been assisting with deliveries in the affected area but had fallen short of the company’s required standards.
The contractor has been removed from Evri’s delivery operations.
