A jury has begun deliberations in the case of a man accused of sexually assaulting a fellow student at university.
Fraser Bonar, aged 30, has entered pleas of not guilty to six charges comprising two counts each of rape, assault by penetration and sexual assault.
The charges relate to alleged incidents occurring in September 2021.
Court proceedings were informed that both the accused and the complainant were enrolled as students at Oxford Brookes University at the time of the alleged offences.
The prosecution previously outlined that the alleged crimes occurred during two distinct meetings between the pair.
On September 15, the jury retired to consider its verdicts at approximately midday.
Bonar had previously taken to the witness stand on September 10 to give testimony.
During examination, he stated that consent was important to him and that he had obtained consent at every stage without exception.
The prosecutor posed a question as to whether he had the woman under his control.
Bonar responded by saying he did not think she had ever been afraid of him because he maintained his innocence regarding the alleged crimes.
He added that she had not attempted to physically push him away.
Proceedings were told that the woman and Bonar, from Rushley Way in Reading, had arranged to attend freshers’ week events together and attended a gathering at a residence.
Following the party, they returned to his halls of residence.
The woman became ill in his bathroom, and Bonar assisted her to his bed while he retrieved bedding.
Bonar then began to masturbate before joining her in the bed.
The prosecutor stated that he commenced removing her clothing.
She attempted to grasp him, but he pressed her down.
She described him as being aggressive.
She told the court she was exhausted and feeling unwell, yet he instructed her to remain calm.
She felt she had no escape route and was begging him to cease.
The barrister further noted that Bonar did cease momentarily before resuming his actions.
The prosecution case is that he compelled her to perform oral sex.
Regarding events the subsequent day, the prosecutor submitted that he insisted on accompanying her to the bus stop.
She was uncertain how to react.
He behaved as though nothing had occurred and repeatedly appeared at locations where she was present.
She disclosed to others that she experienced a sense of being confined.
The jury heard that the following week, Bonar visited the woman’s university accommodation.
He gained entry to her room and lay down beside her.
The prosecutor indicated that Bonar kissed and bit various parts of her body.
After the second incident, the jury was informed that Bonar persisted in making his presence apparent to the woman across the campus grounds.
The prosecutor further noted that she confided in a friend and informed her mother.
She reported the matter to the university authorities and contacted law enforcement.
The woman provided two statements to police during 2022 and 2023.
The jury heard that Bonar was questioned by officers in April 2022.
He furnished a comprehensive account detailing their initial meeting and the dynamics of their association.
He maintained that all sexual contact occurred with mutual agreement.
The trial remains ongoing.
