A United States military aircraft was observed flying at low altitude above Oxford on the evening of Sunday 6 September.
The Rockwell B-1 Lancer heavy bomber was detected in the skies above Botley at approximately 5.50pm, with additional sightings reported over Appleton, Cowley and Littlemore.
The aircraft produced a distinctive noise that generated mixed responses among members of the public.
According to those who witnessed the flypast, the aircraft generated substantial noise levels that caused concern among some observers.
Several residents expressed enthusiasm at the unusual sight and captured images of the bomber as it passed overhead.
Eyewitnesses reported observing the aircraft circling in the area, with claims that a landing gear issue had developed during the flight.
The aircraft subsequently completed its landing without incident, although this account had not received official verification at the time of reporting.
The bomber is believed to have originated from RAF Fairford, a Royal Air Force station located in Gloucestershire that serves as a base for United States Air Force operations.
A request for comment has been submitted to the facility.
