The television presenter Andi Peters has addressed a controversy following remarks made by actress Miriam Margolyes during an appearance on the ITV programme This Morning.

The Oxford-born performer featured on the show on Thursday September 3, when dialogue about regional speech patterns veered into contentious territory.

Sources indicated that production staff grew concerned during the exchange, and certain comments were subsequently removed from the recording available on ITVX.

During the broadcast, Ms Margolyes demonstrated a imitation of co-presenter Christine Lampard’s Northern Irish brogue before directing questions toward Mr Peters.

She inquired what form of speech would be typical for him and sought clarification about his background.

Mr Peters responded by stating simply that he was himself.

Ms Margolyes then suggested that he possessed mixed heritage, noting that he had a black father and white mother.

The presenter subsequently clarified that both his parents were black.

According to reports, Ms Margolyes later employed terminology during the discussion that has fallen out of favour.

As the segment progressed, Mr Peters commented that production members were becoming apprehensive, referencing guidance coming through his earpiece.

Ms Margolyes responded by urging calm and stating that all individuals were embraced, mentioning her intention to address the topic in her upcoming book.

He described the moment as particularly unsettling with no apparent editorial intervention, while praising Mr Peters for his handling of the situation.

Mr Vine also highlighted Mr Peters’s observation about production staff growing concerned.

Mr Peters subsequently issued a public response, expressing gratitude and acknowledging the unpredictable nature of live broadcasting.
