Rail services linking Reading with the capital have been suspended for several hours on Monday following an emergency services operation at a location between the two stations.
Great Western Railway confirmed the halt to traffic shortly after 11:30am on 7 September.
The operator stated that a road vehicle had struck a bridge situated along the route connecting Reading with London Paddington, resulting in the track being inaccessible.
Services travelling in both directions between these points have been affected, with trains prevented from operating along the blocked section.
The closure has had a significant impact on routes connecting Oxfordshire with London, as numerous services use the Reading corridor when travelling to and from the capital.
Passengers have faced cancellations and substantial delays as a result of the incident.
According to the rail company’s communication on the social media platform, travel disruption was anticipated to persist until 12:30.
The operator advised customers to verify their journeys online and monitor official channels for further information regarding the status of services once the line reopens.
