A free public event will reveal more than 120 historic structures and concealed locations throughout Oxford.

The Oxford Preservation Trust’s annual Open Doors weekend is scheduled for September 12th and 13th.

Attendees will gain entry to numerous buildings, participate in guided explorations, engage with interactive displays and enjoy activities suitable for families across the city.

The organisation’s chief executive explained that the event enables public access to distinctive Oxford locations.

The trust operates as a small independent charity focused on preserving and honouring the landscapes, structures and narratives that define the city.

Each September, the event unites the community for a weekend of free access to the city’s remarkable spaces.

Contributions from local groups and individuals facilitate opportunities to discover parts of Oxford typically closed to visitors, including live entertainment, participatory experiences, tranquil gardens and expert-led walks.

gratitude was expressed toward property owners who participate and the dedicated volunteers who contribute significant effort throughout the event.

Financial backing was received from several community funding initiatives.

Notable offerings include an exploration of Lincoln College Library, a natural history display at the main library complex and a themed walking route through Osney Island.

The new humanities complex provides additional cultural programming, while an alternative walking experience examines the historical context of a prominent colonial monument.

At a local cinema, visitors can view a documentary segment chronicling regional vehicle manufacturing during the 1980s.

The municipal museum presents an archive display featuring historical construction blueprints from civic records.

A listening experience commemorates two centuries of a local medical facility, with additional programming highlighting services assisting those without stable housing.

A coordination point operates within the castle grounds, distributing printed materials and hosting craft demonstrations alongside archaeological presentations.

On the final day, tours become available at a decommissioned military installation from the mid-twentieth century, conducted by area historians.

Younger visitors can operate antique printing equipment, inspect emergency response vehicles and participate in scientific activities at a research campus.

Multiple higher education institutions across Oxford participate in the programming.
