OXFORD MAGISTRATES’ COURT PROCEEDINGS Among those sentenced at Oxford Magistrates’ Court this week were several individuals facing charges ranging from vehicle theft to road traffic offences.
A 26-year-old man of no fixed address received an eight-week custodial sentence after admitting the theft of a Ford Transit van worth £9,750 in Trowbridge on April 3 last year.
A 32-year-old resident of Patrick Haugh Road in Upper Arncott was committed to prison for four weeks following guilty pleas to two charges of racially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress through words or writing.
The offences were committed in London on August 8 last year, with the individual also admitting assaulting a police officer on that date.
A 46-year-old from Marlborough Gardens in Faringdon was ordered to pay £60 in costs alongside a £166 financial penalty after admitting failure to comply with requirements of a community order originally imposed by Oxford Magistrates’ Court in March this year.
A 35-year-old of no fixed address received a 36-week prison term for stealing items valued at £36.15 from a retail establishment in Portsmouth on February 1 this year.
Kasun Mabarana, 36, from The Copeway in Banbury, was disqualified from driving for six months and incurred four penalty points after pleading guilty to exceeding the speed limit in a 50mph zone while operating a BMW on the M11 at Chigwell in Essex on June 17 last year.
Financial penalties of £130 in costs and £415 in fines were also imposed.
Stephen Carter, 59, from Blenheim Road in Shirburn near Watlington, was banned from driving for six months and received three penalty points after admitting to speeding in a 30mph zone at the Limehouse Link Tunnel close to Hertsmere Road in London on July 21 last year.
The vehicle involved was a Volkswagen Transporter.
The court ordered payment of £40 costs, a £16 victim surcharge and £40 in fines.
Renan Ribeiro, 33, from Thames View Road in Oxford, admitted possessing a class B controlled substance, specifically cannabis, in Barking, London on March 23 this year.
He was directed to pay £85 costs, a £32 victim surcharge and £80 in fines, with the substance ordered to be destroyed.
Nazar Eltahir, 59, from Minchery Road in Oxford, admitted speeding in a 20mph zone at A219 Fulham Palace Road in London on May 27 last year while driving an Audi Q2.
Three penalty points were endorsed on his licence, and he was ordered to pay £130 costs, a £61 victim surcharge and £153 in fines.
Ashley Crane, 30, from The Village Close in Upper Arncott near Bicester, was found guilty of refusing to provide a breath specimen when required to do so by a road traffic officer in Maidenhead on July 21 last year.
A 12-month driving prohibition was imposed, along with £300 in costs and a £300 fine.
Ledion Panxha, 39, from Wolsey Road in Oxford, admitted driving while over the legal alcohol limit in a black Audi A7 on the M40 at junction eight on February 21 this year.
The reading was 41 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
He was banned from driving for 36 months and ordered to pay £85 costs, a £461 victim surcharge and £1,153 in fines.
