GWR invites families to name new railway dragon

Published on

Great Western Railway has introduced a new travel companion for passengers this autumn.

The exclusive plush dragon, created as part of the operator’s Five and the Dragon Quest initiative, forms part of the wider Famous Five campaign and is designed to accompany families on journeys throughout the South West and South Wales.

Before the dragon officially joins the GWR collection, members of the public are being asked to suggest a suitable name.

Helen da Costa, GWR’s head of marketing, explained that the intention was to bring additional enchantment to rail travel this season.

She noted that a fresh dragon character would be embarking on its own adventures and expressed confidence that customers would devise an appropriate name.

She added that while competition among suggestions was anticipated, the railway was certain someone would propose something fitting for this newest addition to the family.

The dragon has already made appearances across the network, including encounters with children’s author Michael Rosen along with podcast personalities Isy Suttie and Dan Skinner from Great Escapes.

Families, young travellers and aspiring writers are now being encouraged to submit potential names for the mythical creature.

The winning suggestion will be rewarded with tickets for a family railway excursion alongside their own dragon plush toy.

The collectable dragon can be purchased from GWR’s souvenir shop at a price of thirty-two pounds.

Additional merchandise released alongside the campaign features Line to Legend Land postcards priced at ten pounds and notepads available for sixteen pounds.
