A grant programme will see dozens of secondary schools across four counties introduce restrictions on mobile devices during the school day.
Thirty schools spanning Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes have been allocated a total of £254,000 through the Phone Free Schools Fund.
The money, which was unveiled in June, originates from the office of Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber and is intended to eliminate pupil access to smartphones during lesson times.
The initiative aims to enhance educational settings and provide additional protection for students by limiting exposure to mobile phones throughout the school day.
The funding enables institutions to purchase their own preferred secure storage options, whether these consist of lockable pouches, individual lockers or sealed boxes.
Devices would remain locked away except in emergency situations, though pupils could still carry phones for their journeys to and from school premises.
The resources for the scheme derive from proceeds generated by the sale of confiscated items that cannot be restored to their original owners.
Legally, these funds must be directed toward community-based projects rather than operational policing costs.
Implementation is scheduled to commence at the earliest participating institutions when the autumn term begins.
Schools that have already adopted comprehensive mobile phone restrictions have reported measurable improvements in pupil conduct and overall benefits to their learning environments, according to observations gathered from educational establishments.
