A historic Oxfordshire village pub is undergoing a temporary closure for refurbishment work this month.
The Red Lion in Adderbury, located near Banbury, is a Grade II listed 17th-century coaching inn that will cease operations from September 7 while improvements are carried out.
The venue, managed by Greene King, is anticipated to resume trading later in September following the renovation programme.
The planned works aim to combine the establishment’s traditional character with contemporary amenities.
According to a company representative, the establishment will continue serving as a community focal point with dining and refreshment offerings suitable for various occasions.
Improvements to the property encompass new flooring throughout, updated furnishings, refreshed lighting, and refreshed décor schemes.
The bar areas are also included in the enhancement plans.
Guest facilities will be upgraded, with toilet facilities and hotel accommodation receiving attention to increase visitor comfort.
External areas will see sympathetic planting, updated décor, external lighting, and new decking installed to improve the property’s external appearance and outdoor dining facilities.
The venue’s 17th-century heritage will be preserved throughout the renovation process.
