Oxfordshire is home to one of Britain’s finest independent educational institutions, according to the latest edition of a prestigious parenting publication.
The guide ranks institutions across the country that have educated members of the royal family and well-known personalities.
Headington Rye secured eighth position among 15 featured establishments.
The institution occupies a campus on Headington Road in Oxford.
Young learners aged three to eleven receive education at the preparatory division, which accommodates both boys and girls.
The senior school provides both day and residential options for girls between eleven and eighteen years old.
The establishment operated under the name Headington School upon its founding in 1915.
A merger with Rye St Antony School, which had been established in 1930, took place in 2024, creating the current institution.
Academic studies are supplemented with a diverse range of activities outside the classroom.
The campus spans 23 acres and includes sports fields, tennis facilities, a swimming pool and an all-weather pitch with artificial lighting.
Tuition costs £10,261 per term for day pupils, while boarding facilities are charged at £20,688 annually.
Notable former students include actress Emma Watson, Ghislaine Maxwell, Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill and Christina Onassis.
The guide places Harrow School at the top of its rankings.
The boys-only establishment counts Sir Winston Churchill, actor Benedict Cumberbatch and rugby captain Maro Itoje among its former pupils.
St Paul’s Girls’ School occupies second place with annual fees of £12,854.
The school counts television presenter Susanna Reid and actress Viola Prettejohn among its alumni, the latter portraying young Princess Elizabeth in a recent series of a royal drama.
Nearly half of its student body has gone on to study at Oxford or Cambridge universities.
