Community mourns as charity shop closes after 20 years

A retail outlet operated by a cardiac charity in Headington has been put on the market after ending operations at the festive period following two decades of trading in the district.

The British Heart Foundation outlet on London Road in Headington locked its doors for the final occasion on December 24 last year.

Trading commenced at the site in 2001, but operations ceased more than 20 years afterwards as the lease on the prominent commercial position concluded.

The premises at 94A London Road has been advertised for purchase by prospective new businesses, with the agency Benedicts promoting it as a retail space suitable for multiple purposes and occupiers.

The charity’s distinctive red signage positioned above the shopfront windows has been removed ready for whoever moves in next.

The promotional listing noted that the unit benefits from a visible position facing London Road, with strong exposure within an established shopping terrace that includes national retailers like Boots, Sainsbury’s and Holland & Barrett alongside cafes and independent businesses.

The location draws a mix of students, working professionals and local inhabitants, guaranteeing steady footfall from different customer groups throughout operating hours.

The 1,138 square foot space is being offered at a rental price of £38,985 annually.

Louise Stevens, the regional manager for the British Heart Foundation, issued a communication last December stating that the lease had reached its end after numerous satisfying years of trading and the Headington branch would cease operations on December 24. She expressed gratitude to staff members, volunteers, shoppers and those who donated items over the years.

The nearest remaining British Heart Foundation outlet is located on St Ebbe’s Street in Oxford.
