Boris Johnson, who held the position of UK Prime Minister between 2019 and 2022, made an unexpected appearance at an Indian eatery situated just beyond the boundary of Oxfordshire.

The former Conservative leader dined at Shah’s Indian Restaurant & Take-Away in Wellesbourne on Tuesday, May 19.

The establishment shared multiple images of Mr Johnson on Facebook along with a message for their patrons.

The post indicated that Johnson had dropped in for a curry the previous evening.

The restaurant posted that they were absolutely delighted to welcome Boris Johnson to Shah’s the previous evening. Staff members expressed being tremendously proud to welcome him and present some of their signature offerings. They noted it was a wonderful evening filled with excellent atmosphere, and a great source of pride for the Shah’s family to meet him. The post included thanks for coming and invited patrons to guess what he ordered.

Mr Johnson, who resides in Oxfordshire, and his party began their meal with Papadoms and Onion Bhajis.

The venue later revealed that the group proceeded to enjoy a Bengal Fish Curry, Lamb Biryani, Boro Chingri and Rice with Peshwari Naan.

Abdul Wahid, who operates Shah’s alongside his brother Shah Hussain, told this newspaper that it was a great honour. He mentioned they had a good laugh and joked about the political situation at the moment. He stated he asked Johnson if he was happy to take some pictures after the meal, and that Johnson was really happy to comply.

The family also runs the Indian Queen establishment in North Oxfordshire close to Banbury.
