A cricket club in the local area has secured fresh backing from a major housebuilding company.

Persimmon Homes South Midlands, currently engaged in constructing the Wykham Park estate in Banbury, has signed up as a sponsor for Banbury Cricket Club.

The club, which was re-established in 1949, now counts almost 200 young participants aged between five and 19 among its ranks.

Banbury Cricket Club chairman Martin Phillips said the youth initiative the club has built represents something it takes considerable pride in, and maintaining such standards depends wholly on ongoing assistance from companies such as Persimmon Homes. He expressed satisfaction at having them join what he described as their family, adding that they look forward to working alongside them as the season progresses.

Sales director Clare Bright from Persimmon Homes Midlands noted that beyond merely constructing homes, the company aims to nurture communities, which aligns closely with the values upheld by Banbury Cricket Club. She mentioned that the club boasts an extremely dynamic team of volunteers, coaches and parents, with fixtures arranged throughout the year, and that they were delighted to be involved. She extended her best wishes for the season ahead.

Persimmon is currently progressing with the second stage of its Wykham Park scheme.

The company, established in 1972, operates from 29 regional offices throughout the country and employs more than 5,000 staff, supporting in the region of 86,000 jobs within the construction sector.
