A permanent closure of a parking facility in Oxfordshire has resulted in the loss of more than 30 positions nationwide, following the administration of the United Kingdom’s largest parking company.
National Car Parks (NCP) went into administration in March, with its insolvency practitioners citing significant financial pressures and inadequate liquidity to fulfill its commitments.
During the initial phase of restructuring, just over 20 parking sites deemed “commercially unviable” throughout the country were scheduled for closure in late March, with a little more than 30 positions eliminated at those locations overall.
The NCP-operated parking facility on Marlborough Road in Banbury formed part of this initial wave of closures and has now ceased operations permanently.
The specific number of job losses in Banbury remains unclear, though administrators have confirmed that redundancies associated with this first closure programme exceed 30 across all impacted sites.
The remainder of NCP’s portfolio—over 300 parking facilities across the country—continues to operate while administrators assess potential options for the business.
Two NCP parking facilities in Oxford’s city centre remain operational and are among those being managed under administrator control.
NCP, a longstanding presence in urban centres across Britain, has experienced pressure from evolving commuting habits, increased remote work arrangements, and escalating operational costs.
The company’s descent into administration has placed nearly 700 positions at risk throughout the organisation, although only a minimal portion of these have been affected thus far through the initial round of parking facility closures.
