Oxfordshire residents are being advised to stock up on their repeat prescriptions ahead of the upcoming early May Bank Holiday.

The recommendation comes from NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board, which is urging people to collect their repeat medications in advance because high street chemists and doctors’ surgeries will not be operating during the extended weekend.

Dr Lalitha Iyer, chief medical officer at NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board, said people should make certain they have enough of their routine medicines to see them through the bank holiday period.

It makes sense to gather your usual medications before the holiday, especially if you intend to travel.

Take time to verify that vulnerable relatives, friends, and neighbours have the medicines they need.

Dr Iyer also detailed the options patients have for obtaining their medication.

She explained that the NHS App offers a simple method for requesting repeat prescriptions, and patients can also reach out to their General Practice online or by phone to check they have sufficient supplies.

If you discover you are without your medication, NHS 111 online offers advice on securing an emergency supply. Nevertheless, planning ahead remains the better option.
