Firefighters respond to blazing waste truck near Oxfordshire village

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has attended to a waste collection lorry producing smoke and is urging local people not to be alarmed.

An update was published at around 10am on Thursday, April 30, concerning the smoke-emitting waste vehicle making its way from Noke in the direction of Ewelme in the county’s southern area.

Several fire appliances are escorting the vehicle and the matter will be dealt with safely upon its arrival at the station.

A spokesperson from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service explained that they were currently overseeing a waste facility lorry generating smoke while it travelled between Noke and the Ewelme area in South Oxfordshire.

Fire engines were escorting the vehicle back to the station, where crews would safely resolve the situation.

The service added that people living nearby had no need to be concerned, but should anyone spot the lorry being transported, they should ensure emergency responders have sufficient space.

The spokesperson stressed there was no cause for concern, yet if observers noticed the lorry and fire engines on the road, they should slow down, close their car windows and allow crews adequate room.

The spokesperson went on to thank the public for their cooperation as the situation was handled safely.

The reason the lorry caught fire has not yet been established.
