Fourteen runners have crossed the finish line of the London Marathon, bringing in roughly £50,000 for Oxford Hospitals Charity.

The participants covered the 26.2-mile course through the capital on Sunday to gather funds for healthcare services across Oxfordshire.

The money will go towards cancer treatment units, the Oxford Heart Centre, the Silver Star Maternity Fund, and Oxfordshire I.M.P.S.

Each competitor entered the race with their own individual reasons for taking part.

Nick Ellis noted that the warm weather made the event difficult, and the course featured more hills than he had remembered. The incredible crowds along the route offered steady support throughout. He said he was extremely grateful to Oxford Hospitals Charity and I.M.P.S. for giving him the chance to compete and collect money for such a deserving cause.

Ava McGinn said the atmosphere was impossible to describe. By the end, her legs were aching, but reaching the finish knowing she had run for the Children’s Hospital made each step worthwhile.

Cris Ciotti completed the course fastest among the team, clocking three hours and 24 minutes.

Mark Swadling gathered the most donations, accumulating £10,700.

James Hannelly said he ran to commemorate his sister Leann and to back the charity’s excellent work, which gave him the drive to keep going and finish.

Claire Hughes, who works as events officer at Oxford Hospitals Charity, thanked all fourteen participants for their dedication and support.
