The A34 exit ramp will be shut during nighttime hours this week as construction on the highway’s new interchange progresses.

Oxfordshire County Council’s £36million Lodge Hill Interchange project continues forward, with multiple traffic restrictions and management schemes already implemented throughout the construction period.

The highway improvement scheme remains on track for year-end completion, introducing south-facing slip roads to complement the existing north-facing ramps.

Motorists are being advised that the southbound exit from the A34 at Lodge Hill will be closed during the night of Thursday, April 30.

The ramp will remain inaccessible from 9pm until 6am to enable installation of fresh temporary traffic control systems.

Signed alternative routes will direct motorists to utilize either the Hinksey Hill or Marcham Interchanges for exiting or joining the A34.

When the southbound off-slip reopens at 6am on Friday, May 1, it will feature a revised temporary configuration. Vehicles exiting the A34 will only be permitted to turn left onto the A4183 heading toward Abingdon.

Those needing to proceed right onto the A4183 toward Hinksey Hill must instead turn left, travel to the Dunmore Road/Twelve Acre Drive roundabout, and execute a turn there.

Additional restrictions at the current Lodge Hill slip roads are anticipated throughout the summer months to accommodate realignment work and connection of the new roundabout structures to existing roadways.

These restrictions are expected around early June for the northbound entry ramp and early July for the southbound exit ramp, each lasting approximately four to six weeks.
