A senior Labrador experiencing vision loss was rescued by police from a road in Oxfordshire.

The dog, called Poppy, was discovered by Thames Valley Police officers on routine patrol in Steventon, which lies between Abingdon and Didcot, on Monday night (April 27).

The pet was observed walking along the carriageway, which prompted the attending officers to intervene and restrain her.

After successfully catching Poppy, officers reached out to her owners using details from her identification tag and reunited her with her canine companions.

Photographs of the Labrador were shared on the Thames Valley Police Rural Crime Team’s Facebook page that same night, along with a statement.

A spokesperson for the force explained that while carrying out routine patrols that evening, Officers Dollery and Kamalee came across this charming black Labrador walking along the road in Steventon. The officers safely contained the pet and immediately contacted the owner using the up-to-date tag details on the collar. Poppy, who is elderly and cannot see well, has been collected by her owner and is now safely back at home with her other furry friends.
