An investigation has been launched following the death of a Ukrainian national at a park in the local area.

Emergency responders and officers from Thames Valley Police attended Browning Road Park in Banbury on the morning of Monday, April 13, arriving shortly before 7am.

The individual who died has been named as 48-year-old Olena Kowal.

A representative from Thames Valley Police confirmed that paperwork was being prepared for the coroner’s office after an unexplained death that police do not consider suspicious occurred in Banbury on Monday, April 13. A woman aged 48 was found dead in Browning Road Park at around 6.50am. Her relatives have been informed and have been offered support during this difficult time.

Local residents noticed officers establishing a cordon around a section of the park while officers carried out their enquiries.

The hearing into Ms Kowal’s death got under way at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court on Thursday, April 23, with senior coroner Darren Salter presiding.

After a post-mortem examination, medical experts established that the cause of death was hanging.

The case was adjourned until the full inquest continues at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court on July 27 at 11.15am.

Following Ms Kowal’s death, local residents shared their sympathies.

Jade Hemmings wrote that she was very sorry for the family’s loss and that her thoughts and prayers were with them.

Julie Northover expressed that she was very sorry for the loss and sent condolences to her family and friends during this sad time.
