Emma Watson, recognised for portraying Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, has spoken about feeling she achieved remarkable success in her profession while still yearning for certain elements of cinema.

The performer, now in her mid-thirties, brought the iconic witch character to life throughout all eight entries in the popular wizarding saga, collaborating with Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.

After her acclaimed turn in J.K. Rowling’s magical franchise, Watson directed her attention toward scholarly pursuits. She also featured in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Little Women.

From autumn 2023, Watson enrolled in a postgraduate programme in creative writing at Oxford University.

It emerged in early 2025 that Watson had moved across to a DPhil, which denotes Oxford’s version of a doctorate.

Statements the actress made in one of her more recent interviews about stepping away from the American film industry have been making the rounds this week.

The discussion originally occurred with Hollywood Authentic and was published the prior year, with Watson reflecting on her career path.

In some ways, I genuinely struck gold with my acting career, and my journey has been exceptionally uncommon, Watson expressed.

Nevertheless, she observed that a significant portion of the work entails publicity and commercial activity. I will be frank and straightforward—I have no longing for the commercial side. I discovered that aspect to be quite harmful to my wellbeing.

She continued, But I do sincerely miss putting my skills into practice, and I genuinely miss the artistic work itself. I realised that I was capable of participating in so little of what I was truly passionate about.
