A £115,000 upgrade at Horton General Hospital’s maternity outpatient department has been completed.

The funding supported a major improvement scheme designed to offer enhanced services for expectant mothers and their families.

The upgrades include two extra consultation rooms, a refurbished area equipped with modern scanning equipment, a fresh workstation for midwives, upgraded toilet facilities, and a wheelchair-accessible bathroom.

Milica Redfearn, the director of midwifery at OUH, said the organisation was delighted to be making this investment in maternity care at the Horton site.

These enhancements would allow the provision of an improved environment for both patients and staff while also broadening the specialist care options accessible locally.

She thanked BOB ICB for its generous donation of a new ultrasound machine, which would help guarantee that women attending the clinic received high-quality, personalised care.

The renovated space will also host three specialist pregnancy clinics each week, with expertise from John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

These services are set to begin during the early summer months.

Yvonne Christley, chief nursing officer at OUH, noted this was positive news for pregnant women and families in Banbury and demonstrated the commitment to developing the Horton site.

By offering these upgraded facilities alongside additional clinic appointments, local families would benefit from specialist care closer to home, supporting the excellent services already provided by the midwifery-led unit staff.
