Fire crews continue to work at the site of a blaze at RAF Fairford as further details emerge.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service reported that crews are dealing with a fire involving a commercial building in the vicinity of Fairford. Residents in the area have been urged to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke drifting from the incident.

According to Ministry of Defence sources, reports from RAF staff confirmed that no Royal Air Force personnel were involved in firefighting operations.

The fire started inside a derelict building within the confines of the RAF base, which currently serves American military operations.

Videos and photographs circulating online depicted a structure completely surrounded by fire, recognised as the commissary at the base.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue confirmed that the emergency call came in at 1.52am this morning reporting the fire at RAF Fairford. Fire engines from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service attended, with support from fire services in surrounding counties.

The incident involved a single-storey industrial storage building. Crews managed to bring it under control with no casualties reported.

Firefighters are maintaining their presence at the location this morning as a precautionary measure and to ensure the situation is fully resolved. An inquiry into what caused the fire is in progress, with early indications suggesting the blaze was not intentional.

Requests for further information have also been made to the United States Air Force.
