A new parking approach without tickets may be implemented throughout two districts under plans put forward by a local authority.

Both South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils are examining their off-street parking regulations and exploring the possibility of adopting a ticket-free system at all their managed locations.

The initiative would eliminate the requirement for drivers to place a physical ticket in their vehicles and bring the parking service into the modern era.

According to the suggested changes, motorists would input their complete vehicle registration details at a payment terminal to secure a complimentary hour of parking or to cover extended periods.

Fees could be settled using coins, contactless bank cards, Google Pay, or Apple Pay.

The current PayByPhone service, which functions without the use of a payment machine, would continue to be an option.

Among the suggestions are converting the Southern Road car park in Thame from short-stay to all-day availability, revising the pricing structures at two Wallingford car parks (Castle Street and St Georges Road) to align with other council-operated car parks in the town, and redesigning the space arrangement at Cattlemarket car park in Thame to accommodate a new purpose for the adjoining commercial property.
