A group of nine campaigners have received sentences following their demonstration at the Radcliffe Camera in January of last year.

The activists caused disruption at the Radcliffe Camera during a protest on January 24, which resulted in Radcliffe Square being closed to the public.

All nine individuals were convicted of trespassing and interfering with a lawful activity.

Sebastian Towler, aged 20 and residing in Spindlers, Kidlington, was one of those convicted.

He admitted to the offense of obstructing or disturbing someone carrying out lawful activities.

Towler received a 12-month conditional discharge and was mandated to pay £350 in compensation.

The remaining convicted activists included: Alexandra Ekenger Martin, 19, from Lyham Road, London; Rae Burrows, 22, from Bethel, Caernarfon; Noe Laqueche, 29, from Iffley Road, Oxford; Seth Ludewick, 29, from Romola Road, London; Jai Halai, 25, from Park Road, London; Ceris Bowden, 21, from Osney Lane, Oxford; Jamie Pegg, 23, from Penchwintan Road, Bangor; and Mevish Khan, 22, from Cowley Road, Oxford.

The majority were handed 12-month conditional discharges together with £350 compensation orders.

Burrows, Ludewick, and Halai were each fined £150.

Bail conditions were lifted for all those involved.

The demonstration resulted in the temporary closure of Radcliffe Square, with the Bodleian Library stating the building resumed operations at 11.15am on that day.
