Police operation underway on Oxford street

Published on

Three individuals have been cleared of any wrongdoing following a police operation involving armed officers in Oxford during October.

Uniformed and plainclothes officers descended on Cowley Road near Manzil Way during the evening of October 2, with onlookers observing the dramatic intervention.

Approximately seven unmarked Volvo police vehicles alongside marked cars converged on the busy street around 10.30pm, while a police helicopter provided aerial support from above.

Three suspects aged 32, 22 and 19, all originating from Oxfordshire, were taken into custody on allegations of carrying an offensive weapon, possessing a Class A drug and possessing a Class B drug.

Thames Valley Police clarified that the item recovered from one individual was not a firearm as initially suggested by observers, but rather a “bladed article.”

Footage shared with this publication captured one individual wearing all black being led away by three officers who held onto his arms.

A separate video depicted another person wearing a black puffer jacket, grey tracksuit bottoms and black croc-style footwear, being detained while an armed officer stood nearby with a weapon drawn.

Thames Valley Police has now confirmed the inquiry has been closed.

A spokesperson stated: “Following our investigation, the three arrested men have been released with no further action and the report has been filed pending further information coming to light.

“Anyone with further information should contact us, quoting reference number 43250504139.

“We take such offences extremely seriously and will continue to fight crime and serve victims.
