A childcare programme has reached the necessary national standard according to its latest review.

Rattle and Roll Performance Holiday Club, situated at St Nicholas Primary School in Old Marston, was subject to an Ofsted inspection on February 29.

The setting was awarded a rating of meeting the expected standard, meaning it provides care and education that meets legal requirements.

The club operates as part of the Rattle and Roll Performance organisation and makes use of the school buildings during school holidays, offering performing arts sessions alongside standard childcare for local youngsters.

Inspectors observed the supportive, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere created by the workforce.

The review noted that staff build positive and friendly relationships with children. They make certain every child feels part of things. The atmosphere is informal and happy, and workers are clear about expectations for behaviour. Children know to listen to adults and follow rules.

Staff were praised for arranging collaborative activities such as construction work, obstacle courses and games involving balls.

The review stated that children enjoy these activities and take part with great enthusiasm. They speak confidently with each other and with staff members and demonstrate that they feel at ease and safe.

The programme also supports wellbeing by encouraging children to talk about what is in their lunchboxes and explaining the advantages of healthy eating for taking part in daily activities.

Children from disadvantaged backgrounds who receive additional funding are provided with nourishing, warm meals, and all children participate in food preparation tasks.

Emotional wellbeing is fostered through an emotion board where children can express their feelings twice daily.

The club was also recognised for its inclusive practices and support for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The review identified areas for improvement, including gathering more comprehensive information about children who learn English as an additional language, allowing staff to quickly identify any extra support needed.

Future plans include strengthening staff development to further improve practices when working with younger children.

The review concluded that overall, staff successfully engage all children in activities, building children’s independence and confidence. Many choose to perform songs and dances on the stage, and children have the option of whether to take part. Children are encouraged to remain active to support their health. For example, there are daily opportunities for them to join in energetic play, both inside and outside. Children stay safe as staff arrange themselves efficiently to ensure children receive proper supervision at all times. They help parents understand why it matters that children arrive on time so they can fully join in with available activities.
