A dramatic police chase ended in an arrest in Wantage, with a man taken into custody on suspicion of weapons and drugs offences.

Thames Valley Police said neighbourhood policing team officers were attempting to speak with a ‘suspicious’ man in Wantage yesterday (Wednesday, April 23) as the force ‘believed he was involved in drug dealing’.

However, the man allegedly made off from the officers, dropping his bike in the process and hiding out in a wooded area off Mably Way, according to police.

The police ‘commandeered the bike and continued the chase’ and eventually caught the suspect ‘in some serious undergrowth’ and arrested him.

A 28-year-old man from outside the area has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and possession of a bladed article.

Officers reportedly seized ‘a quantity of suspected class A drugs, a small knife and cash’.

A spokesperson for the neighbourhood policing team said: “Yesterday, officers attempted to speak with a male we believed was involved in drug dealing.

“Instead of stopping, he chose to run – again – dropping his bike in the process. Naturally, we commandeered said bike and continued the chase.

“He then decided it was time for a game of hide and seek in the wooded area off Mably Way, Wantage. What he didn’t realise is that many of us have kids — so we’re very good at hide and seek.

“He was eventually found buried in some serious undergrowth.
