Music retailers across Oxfordshire are celebrating what they call their most successful Record Store Day yet.

The Truck Store branch on Cowley Road in Oxford and the Truck Store outlet in Witney, formerly operating under the Rapture name, both experienced substantial footfall throughout Saturday.

Record Store Day functions as a global celebration of independent vinyl shops, intended to highlight these businesses that serve music fans throughout the twelve months.

The event showcased hundreds of one-of-a-kind, extremely limited editions sold exclusively through independent retailers, offered on a queue-based system.

Shoppers purchased special Record Store Day products from musicians including Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, and The Colourfield.

Carl Smithson, speaking on behalf of Truck Store, stated that both venues saw significant attendance from the start, with the Oxford branch seeing queues stretching along Cowley Road and around the bend.

The Oxford shop is currently marking fifteen years of trading, and this year’s celebration proved to be the most hectic Record Store Day the two locations have experienced.

Smithson observed that the range of releases available for Record Store Day is impressive, noting that admirers of Taylor Swift could be found browsing alongside those seeking Neil Young and The Doors, with the event drawing diverse customer groups.

He mentioned that trade remains consistent throughout the twelve months, the occasion is not limited to just one day, and the retailer continues operating regularly, having already staged a listening event this week.

Record Store Day was established in California during 2008 and has since developed into an international occasion embraced by music fans everywhere.
