A proposal to reduce and establish disabled parking spots throughout the Oxford area is set for examination this week, despite significant opposition.
During a Thursday session, Oxfordshire County Council’s transportation management cabinet member, Andrew Grant, will review proposals to eliminate, create, formalize, and postpone Disabled Persons Parking Places across the region.
The council will explore establishing these parking places at various sites in Banbury and Bicester, such as Abbey Road, Angus Close, Arundel Place, Union Street, and Bretch Hill in the former town.
Locations including Hertford Close, Langford Gardens, and Leach Road in Bicester are also under consideration.
Additionally, Queen Street and Wytham View in Eynsham, along with Blackberry Way in Woodstock, appear on the agenda.
The council will also consider formalizing the Disabled Persons Parking Place on Acre End Street in Eynsham, while rejecting the removal of the parking place on Edmunds Road in Banbury.
Furthermore, the parking places on Portway in Banbury will be postponed to allow for additional assessments.
A formal consultation period ran from February 5 through March 6, during which the county council distributed letters to neighboring properties.
The consultation generated more objections than support for establishing parking places at Abbey Road in Banbury and Queen Street in Eynsham.
Additional objections were raised regarding the postponement of the decision for the parking place on Portway in Banbury.
