Police have issued a warning after reports emerged of a suspicious attempt to gain entry to a rear garden by a group of hooded individuals in the Brize Norton district.

The incident occurred at a private residence on Elm Grove in Brize Norton on Thursday, April 16, just before 3:30 in the early hours.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that a number of people wearing hooded clothing were seen trying to access the garden, though their intentions remain unclear.

A force spokesperson indicated that residents should be aware a concerning event has been reported on Elm Grove, where on Thursday, April 16, at approximately 3:30am, several male individuals wearing hooded garments were observed attempting to gain access to a garden. At this stage, it has not been established whether they intended to target a storage structure or the main property. Members of the public are being asked to remain vigilant and report any further suspicious activity, particularly individuals checking doors, gates, or looking into gardens. Residents are also urged to review any security camera footage they may possess, as investigators understand a vehicle was parked nearby. Advice was also shared about securing properties, including recommendations to ensure all doors and windows are properly locked, even when people are inside the house or garden, to store keys safely and out of sight, and to consider fitting recording devices to capture activity.

The installation of motion-triggered lighting, security systems suitable for overnight use or when properties are empty, and measures to make homes look occupied were also suggested.
