Major Improvements Planned for Abingdon Community Hospital

Published on

Improvement work has begun at Abingdon Community Hospital’s Emergency Multi-disciplinary Unit.

The enhancements aim to modernise the facility, which offers rapid evaluation, identification, and care as an alternative to admission at a major hospital.

This helps ease pressure on busy accident and emergency departments.

The unit is presently operating from another ward at the Abingdon site while continuing its usual services.

A hospital spokesperson remarked that the refurbishment would modernise the premises, creating a welcoming and accessible environment for both patients and employees.

Abingdon Community Hospital delivers a range of services, including recovery programmes and end-of-life care.

It also cares for patients through a Minor Injuries Unit, an Oxfordshire Stroke Rehabilitation Unit, and several specialist outpatient departments covering rheumatology, cardiology, and children’s orthopaedics.

The hospital operates with a dedicated team of nursing staff, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists, backed by specialists in gerontology who concentrate on elderly patient care.

The improvement work was announced on April 12.
