Music lovers are getting ready to wait outside independent record stores as the yearly event brings special releases to shops across the country.

Tomorrow sees Record Store Day take place, when more than 260 independent record outlets across the United Kingdom come together to celebrate their unique music culture.

Exclusive vinyl pressings are created specifically for this event, and various venues and locations arrange live shows by performers to mark the occasion.

Customers cannot place advance orders for items and must instead join queues on the actual day to obtain their purchases.

Situated on Cowley Road in Oxford, Truck Store is celebrating its 15th anniversary this season and is expecting one of its busiest days, with staff getting ready approximately 500 Record Store Day releases. Its branch in Witney is also taking part in the celebrations.

Queues will certainly build up outside both venues, with both opening their doors to customers at 8am, Truck’s Harry Gledhill explained.

It will be tremendously busy, followed by an evening event at The Bullingdon on Cowley Road showcasing a set by Willie J Healey.

Some collectors spend the entire night in line to ensure they get what they’re looking for, I know.

One of the most wanted products is a 7 inch Taylor Swift pressing of her song Elizabeth Taylor, retailing at £19.99.

As well as this, a five-album Bruce Springsteen compilation capturing a 2024 homecoming show in Asbury Park will be sold for over £80.

Special editions and re-releases have become increasingly popular as vinyl collectors look to expand their current collections.

Releases from Charli XCX and Elton John are also expected to rank among the biggest sellers this year.

Record Store Day began in California in 2008 and has since grown into a global observance enjoyed by music fans everywhere.
