The Ninth Doctor and his former companion are set to reunite for an upcoming project this year.

The actor from Manchester revived the beloved Time Lord character for TV audiences in 2005, leading a highly successful revival of the long-running sci-fi series.

Together with Billie Piper’s character Rose Tyler, the pair became household names across Britain, fighting extraterrestrial threats across various eras and galaxies each week.

The actress from Swindon surprised viewers last year when she seemed to take over the Doctor role after Ncuti Gatwa’s character underwent regeneration.

The broadcaster previously confirmed a Christmas special would air this year, with speculation suggesting Piper would star.

The official Doctor Who platforms have now announced both actors will appear in a new story, scheduled for release in June.

However, this upcoming installment will not be a traditional television production but rather an audio release from Big Finish titled Doctor Who: Thirteen O’clock.

A trailer shared on Instagram featured the caption: “Is it always this quiet?”

The post stated: “Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper return in Doctor Who: Thirteen O’Clock, a new audio adventure coming in June 2026.”

Last month, Eccleston attended the 2026 Literary Festival in Oxford, where he spoke at the Sheldonian Theatre alongside Paterson Joseph.

The 62-year-old also granted an exclusive interview to this publication at the festival, discussing his literary work, the risks associated with gambling, music, and his time on the sci-fi series.
